Go to your yahoo email inbox...send...type in their email address above and send it. Unless you have the new yahoo, then you just click on chat once you get their email address in your contacts list.
For messenger you to to the top where it says contacts, type in what you want where it says add a contact and invite them'.

Send them a email and wait for a reply. Make sure you put their address in your contacts list so the reply doesn't go to spam.
