Lower left pain in side? Over by the ovaries?

I've been having this pain in my left side over by my ovaries and it hurts but not to the point of me crying on the floor, it kind of comes and goes. Ayways it's been going on for a few days and it's bothering me. I really want to know of whats the cause of it? And should i be worried?

I havn't had any sexual intercourse, im not on birth control, and im 6 days away from starting my period.

P.S. i've never had this pain before over by my ovaries, left side and i'm not known for having cramps very often.

Thanks I would really appreciate if you could give me a full description of what exactly im dealing with and how to deal with it :) thanks! Btw im 16

I would make an appointment with an ob/gyn - it sounds like you were ovulating. Many women actually feel the pain of the egg being released. If the pain intensifies, and/or you have bleeding or any discharge (foul-smelling), go to the emergency room at hospital, that could be a sign of ovarian cysts, which is potentially worse, but I wouldn't worry at this point. Your doctor may wish to perform an ultrasound, which can reveal a surprising number of conditions. I have pain, more often in my right ovary. I couldn't understand, because I'd been through menopause. An ultrasound revealed that my ovaries are full of ripe eggs, and they're still being released! At my age! My ovaries look like ripe raspberries. Not dangerous, but a little uncomfortable. Plus, there's some discharge with it - not foul-smelling (be on the watch for something like that), pretty much colourless and scant. If it is ovulation, the pain should go away on its own, but it's always wise to see a doctor for any unusual symptoms. Good luck!
