I'm about to turn 18 and graduate. I'm in the DEP program and I'm going to training a month after I graduate. I joined last summer because I didn't think I could do anything else after I graduated. Now I'm starting to have regrets. I don't think I'll like the military life and I'm antiwar. I think ill be happier if I got my contract pulled before I turn 18 next month. My family completely disagrees with me. They tell me that I can't go to college and if I don't go I'll be poor and miserable; and ill regret it for the rest of my life. Would it be stupid not to join the army? Or is it a personal choice?
As a former NCO and Officer, I'd suggest to you, purely for the benefit of my brothers in arms, DO NOT GO!!!
If you already have made up your mind that you will not like AND that you are anti-war....as if we all aren't...you will only cause problems and disrupt unit cohesion.
Do everyone a favor and figure out something else. (If you had posted youre recruiter's name and number, I would even go so far as to call him or her, and tell them to search elsewhere for a candidate.)
Don't feel like, I am insulting you. Not everyone is cut out for life in the service. It doesn't make you a bad person, it just means that you aren't meant to be a soldier.
My best friend was in your exact position...and he left today. (Which is the reason I'm looking up military related questions) and he was texting me on the way to his camp site in tears and he's one of the most courageous people I know. If it's not what you want...don't do it. If it was something you knew you wanted...you wouldn't have regrets. Don't let anyone push you into something this major. It is NO ONES desicion but yours. And if you are anti-war, out there killing innocent people, you will be miserable. I don't know you or your life, but I know you wouldn't be asking yahoo if you should, if it is meant to be. I wish you the best of luck.
