There is a new series getting posted on Amazon that's pretty good. The Pirate Empire..
First story is called "Scarlet Sails" the next one is "Gentlemen and Fortune" I think there's more coming out.

I've heard of Monsoon but haven't actually read the novel. Perhaps you might find this article helpful?
