If I have a plot of land that is 1372 square meters, and 947/2744 parts out of that belong to someone else, how do I figure out how much that is? I was thinking of diving it, so: 947/2744= 0.345116618. 1372*0.345116618= 473.49 square meter. Is that right? I have no way to check it. BTW this is not homework, it's for a client.

Answer: That's correct.
Process: If the question asks how much of the plot of land belongs to a person owning 947/2,744 parts, we want to first figure out to what percentage that translates.
947/2,744 = 0.34511661807580174927113702623907
or, roughly 34.51%.
A person who owns 34.51% of a plot of land owns 34.51% of the total area of the plot. We can find out how many square meters that translates to by multiplying the total area of land by 34.51%.
Basically 947/2744 can be expressed as a percentage, whatever it is. If lets say you want to find 50% of 5, you times 5 by 50%, or 0.5 which is 2.5 Same here times the 1372 by the 947/2744 and that is your answer It may seem strange timesing that strange fraction, and getting the answer, but just think of it as I have done.
Basically, I like to let the person know how to do it, and why, because if you tell him yes that is good, he still dont know how to do it
