I have a 2002 Ford F-250 7.3 Diesel and I'm having problems with my A/C?

When I start my truck and turn the A/C on it works fine, matter of fact. it get good and cold. After driving awhile, the air starts getting not as cold and eventually it does not cool. If I look at the compressor the clutch is not engaged. I have turned it off, then going at highway spped I turn it on and it works great. But eventually it does the same thing. Can anybody give me an idea what it may be?

if the compressor clutch disengages after being used for a while the clutch could be the problem. you can always check the gap on the clutch before replacing anything too much gap on the clutch will cause problems should be around 0.014-0.030 in. also if the truck is overheating or during wide open throttle the clutch will be disengaged.

The truck could have an logo on the fender that asserts F-250 PowerStroke V8. that's a Diesel. They do make 2 gasoline variations (5.4L V-8 & 6.8L-V10), even though it won't have "PowerStroke" on the logo. Engine length is 6.4 liter.
