I think you should go active army. If you want a career with the army.
Everyone will deploy at least 1 time.
My fiance' is going to Afghanistan in a few months.
Soldiers from every branch is still being deployed.
Also It does not matter what MOS you are in you will deploy at least 1 time.

War is winding down. Odds of a reserve unit being deployed is slim to none. But if you are afraid of fighting/deployed, then don't join. Wars pop out of nowhere. No guarantee there won't be a major conflict in 2 years and they deploy you. What would you do then?

Well what job do you want to do?
If you are a pay clerk than getting deployed to war is very slim, but of you are a infantry soldiers than your chances are higher but still very slim.
By the time you get through boot camp and employment training, Afghanistan will be over anyway.

There's a lot of talk about 3 month humanitarian missions to Africa and Central Asia. Don't count on not getting deployed. If there's some way the Army can **** you they will. Trust me.

Basically all you do is drill 2 days per month, I think. They will send you to fight if there is a current war, but your chances are slim.
