My computer doesn't recognize my speakers.?

I replaced my c drive when it crashed (I have two other drives with data) and loaded windows xp (which I need for my programs). Now when I go into the control panel into audio, it doesn't recognize my speakers. I changed the speakers and still the same results. I don't get audio out of the speakers but when I load a video into my video program, the computer records the video - I just can't hear it. The speakers are plugged into the right jack (which is on the motherboard - asus.) Any ideas about what i can look into?

There could only be a few things wrong with it. First and foremost make sure you have all your drivers updated and installed correctly. If you have a soundcard make sure your speakers are plugged in to the soundcard (sounds stupid, it happens), and make sure all your internal cable are plugged in. Try using the speakers on a different computer and see if the speakers are broken. Just a few thoughts from all I have to go on I honestly do not have a straight answer.

To take a stab on the hours of darkness: you related the speaker cord to the incorrect port on your sound card. if your audio gadget are USB and that they don't seem to be regarded, then pass to the manufacturers internet site and acquire suitable drivers.
