I feel like a television series would be the best way to approach an adaptation.
You have a lot more time to show detail in a television series, which may be lost when transformed into a film. Because instead of having a few two hour movies, you can have a 20 hour television series for the world to enjoy.
The primary example for this would be the incredibly successful television series based on the series, "A Song of Fire and Ice".
A video-game is another medium in which you can transcribe detail as well as provide an immersive experience with the audience.
While there are excellent film adaptations of books, (e.g. Lord of the Rings) it has been previously mentioned that there are bits and pieces which are left out.

A video game sounds awesome :D But I'd much prefer the universe to be adapted as an open-world one which doesn't follow the story line of my present novel.. (God, I'd play that. I love my world XD)
It's too short and not as detailed enough, like a Song of Ice and Fire, to be adapted as a TV series, so movie would be the better alternative.

I'd probably prefer it not to get adapted into a film because most of the time film adaptations suck.
