Label for meat and egg products that claims the animals have not been fed GM feed.?

GMO foods.

Am I missing something here? So animals who digest and incorporate amino-acids from proteins in their corn that are from other organisms...wait...ok, someone has to help me with this. Cows in the field eat proteins from hundreds (thousands?) of different organisms...from amoebas to bugs to myriad bacteria...right along with the various plants we think of as their diet. Why is not one worried about this dietary diversity but are worried about a single non-native protein in the feed?
The "new" genes in GM foods are also millions of years old. These are not artificial genes...they just come from another organism. I can sort of, kind of (not really) understand how folks might be wary of eating proteins from another organism. But wariness of eating animals that have eaten proteins from another organism seems strange. Can someone help me with this??

Hi Seth,

I will try to clarify this for you. There is a major misunderstanding between GMO feed vs. Hybrid seed. Hybrid products are made by crossing two (or more) different members of the same species (ie, carnations and roses, apricots and plums…). Theoretically, these combinations could actually occur through natural causes but science has sped up the process. This is what you are referring to when you speak about all the foods and organisms that these animals eat – they are all natural.

GMO products are made by gene splicing and cross-species. GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organisms but is also referred to as Genetic Engineering. In other words, scientists and creating new species which would never occur in nature. While hybrid seeds have been around for ages, GMO has only been on the market for 15 years and there have not been any published studies to determine if there are potential health risks or not. The longest study I know of lasted just over 5 months and they studied 168 pigs – 83 fed GMO feed and 83 fed the non-GMO equivalent. While there were not substantial differences in the 5 month study, the GMO pigs did have more severe stomach inflammation than the non-GMO pigs. The reason they chose to test pigs is because the digestive system of the pig is similar to the digestive system of humans http://www.foodsafetynews.com/2013/06/study-says-gmo-feed-may-harm-pigs/#.Ucfzhpz3Np4

There are farmers who raise livestock GMO-free, pesticide-free and anti-biotic-free insuring you healthier meat and poultry. Many of them use organic feed for their livestock.

The reason that you are seeing such a debate on GMO is because Monsanto produces 90% of the GMO product on the market today and Monsanto is not exactly known for ethics or caring. They are a large, multinational company based in St. Louis, MO. They have not allowed any independent testing of their seeds to prove safety nor have they proven that they can be trusted at face value. Last November, the spent over $8 million in California to fight Proposition 37 which would have required Mandatory GMO labeling on all food product. Monsanto decided that we, the public, did not have the right to know. If you also consider that Monsanto developed Agent Orange, Roundup Weed Killer and several other chemicals (which have killed people), can you really blame anybody who does not trust them?

Assuming your declaration to be authentic, what makes you suppose that this god or nature will not be serving to great individuals and is supplying every support to evil ones? Nature is an environmental thing. If we anticipate that nature is not a singularity that gives and takes away headquartered upon the ethical or moral existence styles of individuals, that resolves the character part of your question. If we rely on that there is a god and it has the entire capabilities which had been attributed to it, then its alternatives are customarily no longer discipline to seem overview considering it should not have a peer.

This isn't really a question for the "vegetarian + vegan" section.
