I have a 'black copper maran' and a New Hampshire'. One lays pale pinkish eggs and the other lays dark olive eggs with small brown specks. Based on the info I have been able to gather, neither breed should lay these colors. They eat layer feed and leftover table scraps. My guess is that the breeds that I was told that they are, are not correct. Any thoughts or info? Thanks!

I heard that every hatchery has a certain streign of the breed they are selling. And that variable is a lot for chickens. So you probably do have a black copper maran and a New Hampshire , it's just the streign that the hatchery you got them from has. It's probably like when you go to a dog show. There's a lot of Brittany Spaniels, they all resemble each other, but they are all still very different. I don't know how important this would be to you if you were going to show chickens. But if they are pets, then does it really make that much difference to you? The eggs they are laying, sound beautiful. I bet the birds are very pretty also.

It is very likely they are not pure bred. Just enjoy the girls and their eggs.
