I know that Microsoft release Windows 8.1 preview today. I heard that it is a 2.2 GB download file. Can anyone confirm this ? That would take more than an hour from the windows store to download and install. I heard that Microsoft will lease Windows 8.1 as a ISO file tomorrow so that you can do a clean install. What would be the difference downloading through the windows store versus a ISO file.

I don't know about the file sizes but downloading via the Store will allow you to upgrade a Windows 8 install to 8.1 Preview. I recommend against it because it can't be uninstalled. Once the actual 8.1 update is released you will have to to a clean install of Windows 8.
I recommend waiting for the ISO then installing the preview in a virtual machine. The benefits are that you don't have to install it over your current OS. When you're finished testing the preview it's easy to remove. Simply delete the virtual machine.
