What is worship, anyway?

I don't understand what worship is. Can anyone explain what worship is?

This is actually a question I've been asking myself lately. How much of a typical worship service is really worship, and how much is just a social custom? Anyhow, worship can mean different things to different people, depending upon their religion or sect. For some, it might include praising, celebrating and thanking a deity. Worship can be done publicly or privately. For others, it might include singing sacred songs, participating in sacraments, praying, or engaging in rites dedicated to the god(s) in question. For others, it's a time to reflect upon sacred subjects or read holy texts.

WORSHIP "Worship" (Proskuneo /Shachah). Different levels of meaning in scripture.

"Worship" - Proskuneo (Greek) - Shachah (Hebrew) The title "God" or "god" was primarily used to indicate the position of an individual. That is why it was also applied in the Bible in the highest sense of the word to God. But the very same words were used in the Bible for godly men and faithful angels who have been given high positions of authority. For example, Moses was made elohim ("God" or "god") to Pharaoh (Ex. 7:1).

Dear Friend,

Worship is the expression of reverence and adoration for almighty God, our Creator.

It is to show reverence and adoration towards a Holy, Just and Righteous God. Bringing Him our praise and honoring Him. It is an honor and privilege to serve the Most High God; who gives us the 'gift' of life, and every breath we breathe comes from Him.

Blessings,
