How to get unlost in Minecraft?

Sooo I got Minecraft on the computer a while ago and I made a map and it was going fine until my friend came over. He got me very lost and now I cant get back to a place I built something. I even made the extra big map to see if it helped. It didn't. Any ideas?

Try crafting a compass, those take you to your spawn area. Good luck getting the iron and redstone, though.
