Would the American economy be better if it was based on the value of the product or service being offered to the American consumer instead of it being based solely on Supply and Demand?

I'm not an American, so I don't really understand your question.
I never gave any consideration to the basis of the American Economy being any different to the rest of The World.
I always thought that the value of a product (or service) is totally determined on Supply and Demand.

I'm not sure how you mean. If you mean how badly most people need the item, there are few things that have the same value to a broad range of people (for example, I need a food mill in the worst way, but most people don't have one, don't need one, or even know what it is these days). That is kind of where demand comes in. The more people want it, the more "demand" there is.
If you mean value as in what it costs to be manufactured and provided, I do think that is where the baseline price comes from. Then it's marked up for profit, with recognized "name-brands" being jacked up the most.
TP costs little to make, but everybody buys it. Still, prices are getting a little ridiculous for just paper, because manufacturers know people have to have it.

Does value = quality? I have been ordering from TV and am amazed that there is NO quality assurance because I have had to send a lot of defective merchandise back. I think the lack of quality harkens back to everything coming from China and therein lies our problem!
