Solve this equation: xsquared + 8x + 15 = 0

Sulaksh2013-08-03T06:51:46Z

x^2 + 8x + 15 = 0
x^2 + 3x + 5x + 15 = 0 (By middle - term splitting)
Grouping
(x^2 + 3x) + (5x + 15) = 0
x(x + 3) + 5(x + 3) = 0
(x + 5) (x + 3) = 0
(x + 5) = 0 OR (x + 3) = 0
x = -5 OR x = -3

Therefore x = -5 , -3

x^2 + 8x + 15 = 0
x^2+3x+5x+15=0
x(x+3) +5(x+3)=0
(x+3)(x+5)=0
x+3=0 x=-3
x+5=0 x=-5

ANSWER -3 -5

x^2 + 8x +15 = 0 // original equation

(x+5)(x+3)=0 //factored equation. 5+3=8 and 5*3=15, thats how i got them.
x=-5 or -3. //whatever makes either parenthesis equate to 0 is the asnwer.
