It's an alright substitute for lance, though it brings other benefits other than that single situation. If you're having trouble with backrow, i suggest you reformulate your deck to be more aggressive any destroy these cards rather than dealing with them. However, this is very dependant on what type of deck you're using, since there's the chance of destroying your own backrow in the process.

Overall, it's better to use less continuous-type cards so that you know you'll have an empty field, and a risk-free way to destroying your opponent's backrow.

Lance is good to provide immunity, however it only works on 1 monster, and ontop of that reduces its attack significantly. Backrow destruction prior to your attack is the best option if you can pull it off.

Hope it helps!

Generally, no. MST is the best substitution, assuming you want to stop spells and traps. if you are for some reason already using 3, night beam. Dark bribe is only good when you want to stop specific key cards, like is your deck relies on a certain spell that cant be mstd or heavyd or you will lose. if you care about the attack loss effect, you can use shrink. the draw bribe gives them makes it very sub par unless its used in the situation i described above.

@Jonathan: Lol, MST negates./sarcasm

Personally no. Lance provide immunity, get rids of pesky effects, and provide a way to run over monsters(since most bosses are 2.5k - 2.7k in the metagame ATM. Lance deals with BLS easily). Dark Bribe negates, and give them a +1.

Well yes.You can also replace it with a Solemn Judgement/Warning.Try the dark bribe in ur deck and see how it goes if not try an MST or a Night Beam.
