I don't see how, I mean yeah it's sex and whatever...but in the end I don't see how this gets you to understand a person or gets you closer in a genuine way. It's like you got what you wanted and what I wanted in the meantime...what I find disgusting.

For many people, once they have been physically intimate with someone, they feel more open to sharing their emotional side with that person. They feel less vulnerable and more comfortable in talking about their internal wiring, in particular if they believe a connection has been made.
That said, many times people hook up simply to have sex and there is nothing emotionally intimate about the process. This is equally as common and as long as both people know from the outset the situation will not go further than sex, than no one walks away hurt or feeling used.
