Why are egress window wells so expensive?

Seriously. Look at this stuff. It costs like $600 - $1000 for a standard egress window well. Just a steel regular non egress window well costs like $15 - $40. Why do they cost so much? Does anyone know where to get a good deal on one of these?

I just can't justify spending $1000 on a piece of plastic I stick in the dirt.

Just a note. The ones they sell for $100-$200 are parts that click together, and you usually need 4 to 6 of them, so it still ends up costing more than $600.

I think it is because they have to be built to standards that will allow people to escape through the window in an emergency and must stand up well for years no matter what the weather or soil conditions.
