I plan to travel to Ireland for a 12 day country tour that starts in Dublin, and includes Belfast.?

and I have read that the Euro is the money that's used. Is the Euro used in Northern Ireland also ?

Can I exchange US Dollars for Euros at the Dublin airport, can I get Euros through a bank ATM, or, should I buy Euros in the States before I leave home ?

Also, what is a good tip for prompt service ?

Good answers so far. Regarding my "tipping for prompt service" question, I actually meant "good" service. I'm 71 years old and my gears are slipping a bit, but I will be on vacation, so I don't need anything "prompt", except lunch and a nap, loll.

Please don't kick me to the curb for my use of the word, "prompt". I waited tables and served food when I was younger, working my way through school, so I know how hard it can be to work for the public. I have the utmost respect for those that work in that field, but I also know that some "servers" can be distracted at a moments notice. My comment about "prompt service" was not only meant towards food servers, but ALL THOSE that rely on the public for their income. I tip well when I have a server that knows how to serve, but NOT so well when they don't.

The Republic of Ireland use Euros (€), Northern Ireland use The UK currency Pound Sterling (£).

$1 will get you about 70-80 cent, not even a full euro. Look up the currency exchange before you go, I'd recommend you do the transfer in the USA as im sure you'll be ripped off here, but yes, you can do a currency exchange over here just contact the bank in advance, all though I wouldn't recommend doing it.

Euros is indeed the currency of The Republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland is park of the UK and uses Great British Pounds.

You can exchange Dollars for Euros in the Airport but the rate isn't usually very favourable, you're best off getting some Euros and Pounds before you leave. You'll be able to get cash out of ATMs, you're best off telling your bank first though, as they may cancel you're card thinking someones stolen it.

Tips for prompt service? Be nice, polite etc. Certainly don't click your fingers, yell "Hey, Over Here!", or passively aggressively declare "Is nobody working here!?".

As Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom, it uses the currency of the UK, which is the pound sterling.

You can get whatever currencies you need from ATMs, but you should inform your bank before you go, and tell them exactly where you are going, so they don't block your card. I would advise bringing a Visa or MasterCard credit card for emergencies and big spends, and getting a couple of hundred Euro in cash to bring with you so you can easily sort out your transport at the other side.

All service is as prompt as it needs to be. Most people who work in restaurants and bars are Eastern European anyway. Still, be nice. Everyone is working to keep a roof over their heads and food on their tables.

Euro for everywhere in the Republic and pound sterling for Northern Ireland, though most border areas will take the euro, however the exchange rate would not be good.

Sure you can get euro and sterling at atm's.

If use EUROS in the NORTH are wasting your money....DO NOT overtip as seen as a soft touch if do.....10% is VERY generous....
