What are some genres that'd blend well with Metalcore?

Me and a friend are putting together a band. We've decided on doing Metalcore, but I want to make it a bit more unique. I want to try mixing with something that hasn't been done before or popularized. We've been tossing around the idea of Industrial Metalcore, but are trying to look into more sub genres. We don't want do mix Thrash or Progressive since it's been done plenty. What would you suggest?

If you start a band with a genre in mind, it's almost doomed to sound generic

The best suggestion I can give is to just be creative. Don't try to find some gimmicky sub-genre to slot into.

Melodic Death Metal!!!

Metalcore actually started when bands fused Melodic Death Metal with Hardcore Punk.

Try this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfeGa3cAib0 or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7J-m2haLozg

The guitar tone and also in song structure to Bullet For My Valentine's debut album The Poison.

Maybe you can use some Kamelot influence http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORAc_hx33-Q

....Also, I wanna hear what your band sounds like when you guys do a song together :)

Considering your vocalist sucks a growling and is even worse at screaming and if you want clean vocals you're screwed, this might be a bit too early to be looking at genres. Maybe try seeing if you can even get enough people for a band first.

This might be terrible ideas but it'd be cool if they could be pulled off right:
country, blues, funk, reggae, jazz, folk.
