How to update the BIOS on Emachines T6528?

I have been racking my brain on this one. I am trying to update the BIOS on my Emachines tower, and I just cannot get the flashing sequence to start. The Readme file that came with the updated BIOS simply says to move files onto an empty USB drive (doesn't even say what format it should be in, but I assume FAT or FAT32), have the USB drive in the computer at power-on, and hold down 1 "at the menu". I have tried this at the boot-screen (the giant E), at POST, in the BIOS options screen, and even during Windows boot-up. Nothing I do has worked, and I find it extra frustrating because I'm typically very good with computers. Don't worry about telling me the old story of how BIOS updates can brick the motherboard or anything, because believe me, I know. I need to do this because the motherboard is reading my CPU temperature wrong (65C idle!) and it causes the computer to run the fans at top speed and occasionally shut down. I know it's just bad readings because I'm using an Opteron 180 with the stock cooler for an FX 8350, and the cooler only ever gets slightly warm. Thanks!

Thanks Laurence, but it didn't work. I installed and ran the MSI Updater on my Emachine and let it update itself, but it just says that it only works on MSI products and quits. I have tried running it as an admin, running it in compatibility mode for all the available options, and even running it from a .bat file. I simply cannot get it to work. I may end up downgrading the CPU to the Athlon 4000 that was in it when I got it.

some help for you
E-Machines AKA ACER, otherwise owned by GATEWAY, all fit Microstar motherboards amongst others.
you should have a Microstar MS-7207(it will be printed on the mainboard)
usually this means the board is removed from the microstar website,
however in this case it may be this board here.....(or very very like it)
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/K8NGM2-FID--IL--L.html#/?div=BIOS

ie a K8NGM2-FID
so you can read about the bios update instructions here
http://www.msi.com/service/Live-Update-5-Manual/
and the live update might work.

what you may not realise is, the USB you are trying to create is a
DOS BOOTable USB stick
as it's an option if you dont have a floppy disk drive.
so the LIVE utility copies DOS to the stick for you as well as the BIOS BIN files.

you cannot just copy a file to a stick and expect it to work.

hope that helps.
if the msi site doesnt help then consider using the Gateway support for the product instead
as this board is fitted to many gateway / acer pc's
