As you age you tire of blow drying, curling and getting hair cuts. Some of them don't want to afford this luxury. If you grey prematurely you may color it and this is a constant hassle because you are already getting flabby and wrinkled so why not go for a shorter cut.It isn't like you are going to get lucky anytime soon.
Some women have thinning hair due to a decrease in estrogen.
You may also have arthritis that prevents you from styling your own longer hair.
White hairs are not the same texture . They are coarse and harder to style
Problems increase as you age. People get sicker and your family is dying off. You don't want to bother with a lot of hair.
Menopause also causes some women problems with hot flashes where you curl or blowdry hair only to have it become a sopping mess due to sitting and perspiring while everyone else is comfortable.

well think about how much time it takes a girl to do her hair. she has to put all kinds of special products and brush and make it look decent. Do you really think an old lady wants do do that. no. SO they cut their hair short because it's easy to manage and it looks good without anything having to be done to it....Show more

When you get old, your hair has the tendency of thinning out. Also older people take a lot of medicines which make their hair weak and break. So older ladies have to constantly cut their hair so it can look full and also so they can look younger than their age....Show more

I'm not old, but it is easier to manage.I don't have the patience for fancy updos or anything other than a bun or a ponytail, plus when my hair is long-it breaks....Show more
