Scam phone calls at work? Help me!?

I keep getting harassing scam phone calls at work. They're all from the same man claiming to be from a company that represents banks, accusing me of check fraud and saying I'm going to jail if I don't pay a certain amount of money. Besides knowing that I don't owe money to anyone like that, I've looked up the phone number and the website he gave me. The phone number is from a cell phone and the website is for another company that deals in something entirely different (it makes software programs). Unfortunately, knowledge doesn't stop the phone calls. This man called 5-8 times in one hour at my workplace today. I don't have my own phone line at work, meaning these all went through my boss. Very embarrassing and unprofessional. I filed a complaint with the FTC, but I don't know where to go from there. I really want these calls to stop. Help?

Luckily, my boss is very understanding. She is just concerned about me, that's all. She hangs up the phone when they call. Which is nice, but not a long-term fix. I'm extremely embarrassed over this whole thing.

I filed a complaint with the FTC and with the police department in the area the phone number is. I don't know what else to do, or if there is anything else to do.

First explain this to the boss so he knows what you are going through. Maybe you can get the person that answers the phone to help you by saying you have been let go and no longer work there or something. Or they can just say sorry she no longer has phone privileges.

You can also contact the police and say he is harassing you (it is a crime), depending on their work load they may or may not help. You can ask your boss to have the number blocked at work but this only works for 1 number and he may have others.

Good luck.

Tell your boss to call the police and the State Attorney General's office to report harassing and blackmail calls to the company number
If the person calls you again, just say "I am required by law to inform you that all calls to this number are being recorded and traced by law enforcement as part of an investigation into an extortion attempt. If you do not consent to having this call recorded and traced, please hang up now" -- that's usually enough to scare them off

Block the number! 6-8 times in an hour?! That's a stalker, and it is probably someone you know :] Try to think of any people you may know that would do something like that to you.

Try setting up a meeting with this person. Do it in a public place and bring undercover police with you so they can arrest him. Clearly, they're just trying to extort money from you.

Tell him where to go, and tell him what you have initiated, and hang up.....It's a BS scam, no doubt...
