Can you list the kinds of rooms that are inside of a large mansion?

Please name as many as you can. If you want, you can include some weirder rooms too. The mansion rooms can be modern or older (like castles, etc). If you've ever been in one or if you live in one, and want to describe them, that's totally appreciated =). Also, if you can mention some cool things that go in those rooms, please do.
Thanks- I need them for a project I'm working on. =)

I once had the same question for writing a story. Many old huge mansions or plantation houses had rooms simply referred to as a "sitting room". You have to keep in mind that this was before TV, computer, or radio was invented, so people would tend to sit around and actually talk to one another. There would also be a room called a "parlor" which was typically adjacent or close by to the kitchen where one would entertain guests and serve drinks and snacks, which is different from an actual sit-down formal dining room for meals. Some would also have a "music room" to keep instruments and people could practice or play them there. Again, this was from a time when people had to entertain themselves without modern technology.. ha ha. Many big old houses also had a library... exactly what it sounds like... a room to keep tons of books and places to sit and read them. Some places had a room called a "sun porch" or "sun room" which was a room that had more windows than normal and faced whatever side of the house got the most sunlight.

If you want to do some research, try doing a search for state or local parks or even older universities which feature some sort of big old home like what you are doing your project about. Many times there will be a website with pictures and descriptions that you may find helpful.
