Christians, What Did Jesus Mean When He Said I Will Never Leave You Comfortless - John 14:18?

Is this the same thing as saying we are not orphans? I had a discussion with someone earlier - one of the newer versions says: I will not leave you as orphans. To me this changes the meaning of comfortless. Just trying to get an understanding - Thank you

Jesus' return to the Father is essential. He is going to prepare a place for us. He is at the Father's side to intercede for us. However, just because he has gone to the Father's side does not mean that he has abandoned us. Jesus sends the Holy Spirit to be God's presence inside us. We are not alone. Far from it! We have the abiding reminder of Jesus' victory over death and his ascension to heaven with power—the Holy Spirit in us.

He said that He would send a comforter, the Holy Spirit to guide and direct and comfort us. The Holy Spirit lives in us as Christians.

If we are obedient, for the first law of the gospel is obedience, we can have the comfort of the savior to be with us always, and receive the gift of the holy Ghost.
