There are passenger cruise ships which do the trans-Atlantic crossing if you wish to experience the ocean voyage. Google "Cunard", they offer an eight-night crossing.
You can also catch a ferry from the UK to Holland, if you want to complete it all by sea.

Another option is to travel with one of the large trans-Atlantic cargo ships. Some offer passenger berths -- my father even hitched all the way from New Zealand to Holland by cargo ship in his youth. Rotterdam is a major European port so you could travel directly by sea from the US that way.

A third, trickier but probably much more rewarding way is to try to find a job on a private yacht planning to cross the Atlantic. You may need to build some contacts at a large marina....Show more

I doubt there are any regular sailing boats crossing the atlantic. Cheapest way to go by boat is either as passenger on a freightship or using your own sailboat (if you already got one, otherwise this is also highly expensive).
Crossing the Channel between UK and The Netherlands is easier, but you'd still need a ship. Otherwise you can use a ferry that moves between the two nations regularly.

first of all, you will need quite some documentation and everything ready. someone from the USA can't just turn up in europe and someone in europe can't just turn up in USA.

also, if you haven't got your own boat, thus sailing by ferry, i sadly have to say that there's NOT A SINGLE ferry crossing the atlantic ocean between the US and Europe, so you meight want to travel with a freight ship if you can find any.

there are regular ferries between UK and Netherlands on the following routes though:

Newcastle, UK<->IJmuiden, Netherlands
Hull, UK <->Rotterdam, Netherlands.

both services are hosted by P&O.

and added to that, you will need documentation to get Into UK and then another documentation to get into Euro zone since UK isn't a part of the euro zone.

or, to spare you all the trouble, Flying is alot faster, safer, and cheaper. only 6 hours of flight from the east coast. and once passing border control you are only 15 mins away from Amsterdam.

Um, the normal way to get from the US to the Netherlands is to fly, since it's much faster and cheaper than any of the alternatives.

Cunard has trans-Atlantic cruises from New York to Southampton that start around $900 each way, usually much more. Stena Line has a train+ferry+train route from London to Amsterdam.

A 'boat', you need something a lot bigger than that even then its going to take weeks and cost thousands of dollars, you need passport and visa and documentation, you can't just turn up in Europe......Show more
