what kind of hairspray/gel/moose for my hair??

I have horrid hair. It's soft and sleek but just lays flat. I love to curl it, but the curls fall out within 2 hours. It's really frustrating.
I got wen hair gel and it does nothing but keep my hair soft. I get it cut with layers to give it more body but that doesn't even work.
Don't get me wrong, I love my hair I just wish it would style.
I want/need to know if there's some people out there who have the same issue but have found products that work??

I don't have thin hair but I am older and have always kind of used hairspray to keep it in place and looking thicker etc. I LOVE the purple Aussie brand. They have a Freeze hairspray that rocks. I spray it and then re comb my hair to where i want it with my fingers (don't like it perfectly combed looking) Works great.
