I have a live-in housekeeper. How long to fire and evict her? Arkansas?

She was hired to help me after surgery, to wash dishes and stuff when I had both hands operated on. I'm fine now, and just found out she's hiding my stuff in her room and in her car. She's no longer doing any work, and doesn't pay any rent. How long must I give her to move her out?

There is no contract between us, and she's no longer doing any work-not even her own dishes.

If you are getting service in exchange for rent, you have a tenant-landlord relationship. You follow the basic eviction process.

Arkansas has the most landlord-friendly laws in the US. People late on their rent can be put in jail, since it considers eviction a criminal action.

I'm not an expert, speak with a landlord/tenant organization for actual process.

However, I would issue written notice of both end of employment and eviction. In AK, you can issue a 10-day notice to vacate.

Does she have mail that is addressed to her coming to your house? That is the deciding factor. If she has mail coming to your home or has resided with you for more than a month then you have to give her 30 days. I has to be in writing and notarized with both parties signatures. I hope this helps!!!

You can fire here at any time, but you must evict her through court. You could also call the police on her for stealing your things.

Just plainly tell her that her services are no longer needed and she is to pack her bags and leave. If she does, you're fine. If she doesn't, then consider other legal options.

Good luck

Check local squatter laws. Maybe you just ran out of windows or lemon pledge.
