What is the difference between a motion to compel and a motion to enforce litigants rights?

I'd like to know the difference. I tried a motion to enforce litigants rights and nothing happened to my opposing party--he defied court orders. So someone has told me a motion to compel would force the person to follow court orders.

The tragedy of representing yourself, even though it is legal, is that you obviously don't know what you are doing. The tragedy of taking out your own appendix, even though it is legal, is that you obviously don't know what you are doing. See any similarity? (But hey--they are both legal.)
