I have a PS3 and have just heard about Skyrim. Yes I have been living under a rock lately. I see several games out there some called Elder Scrolls. Which game would you recommend and is there something else to buy. I have heard of DLC Downloadable content.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the latest and most popular. I started at TES (The Elder Scrolls) III: Morrowind but that may be a bit archaic for some people. TES IV: Oblivion is good and has decent graphics but if you don't mind not knowing the lore you should go with TES V: Skyrim. It is by far the biggest and best of the series.
If you want to play Skyrim then look for "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Legendary Edition". It comes with Skyrim and all of its DLC, so you don't have to buy anything separately. There's also The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which is the previous game in the series. It also has a "Game of the Year" edition which includes Oblivion and its DLC.
Oblivion is the older of the two but is definitely still worth playing, then you could move onto Skyrim later if you like it.
I'd purchase Skyrim's Legendary Edition which comes with a lot (if not all) of the DLC so you get lots more game for your buck. I only have the original game but I'm planning to trade it in for the DLC Legendary version as soon as I'm done with the handful of games I'm playing now.
If you like games like Skyrim I'd also suggest Dragon's Dogma - got for Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, which is the original game and it's expansion pack. I just finished it the first time through and it was a...maze...ing...
There is also Elder Scrolls: Oblivion which is the game before Skyrim. It is also a fantastic game - get the Game of the Year Edition which should include both Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine - the two expansions. You'll notice the graphics are obviously far different but the story is rich and vast so it's worth it.
The other titles in the series are okay, but skyrim is the most recent and my favorite. The graphics are so much better and the overall gameplay and story line is fantastic. I would without a doubt get Skyrim. Also, The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion is also pretty good, it's the game that came out before Skyrim
Oblivion is a good starter with the Elder Scrolls. It is a clean easy to understand. Skyrim is a bigger more complicated game, which is still a good play. My only complaint is that Skyrim is too big and can become boring in the higher levels of play. Both games allow for many Races to play. So there is a lot of replayability in both.
