Rock and Pop: How can you tell when a song is from the heart of the singer/cover artist?
Or what is it about a song that makes it "heartfelt"? Everyone's different, so I'm curious to see what you all can come up with.
BQ- it's been awhile since I've been here. How've you all been?
BQ2- best time to listen to music is.......?
Thanks everyone!

@Say4nything- Agreed. I usually follow along those lines but sometimes, when I hear a song, I've a clear thought as to why it's heartfelt or something. I dunno, people are different so I figured it was worth asking about ^-^

To me it comes from artist that show a lot of emotion such as Otis Redding, Eric Burdon, Beth Hart, Joe Cocker, Meat Loaf, Alice Cooper, and so on.
BQ: Not bad, but like everyone else there have been ups and downs,
An artist which I believe exemplifies your description is Steve Marriott. In The Small Faces, he had many his. In Humble Pie he really broke new ground. He was " full throttle " all the way. If you can ever see him singing I Don't Need No Doctor, you'll see how sincere he was? Whether playing in a decaying theatre or an arena, you always got your moneys worth from Steve!
B.Q. Of late, not too good but; am on the mend. Hope you are okay?
B.Q.2: Any time, is the best time to listen to music.
All that matters in that sense is whether or not I can relate to it...I know that sounds like a weak answer, but it's true. If I feel like it strikes a personal chord with me, than that's good enough. I tend to favour more raw, less produced music (like Braxton suggested), but it's not like I have any list of criteria.
I'm sure plenty of manufactured pop artists put 'heart' in their songs...but, it gets overshadowed by the production, and I have trouble connecting with it.
For all I know, my favourite bands could be full of sh** when they write their lyrics...who knows. As long as I can relate to it, then I can't complain.
BQ: it's snowing where I live :(
BQ2: depends. I prefer while I'm driving, or walking
You can tell a song is from the heart when you can feel the true emotion in their voice. Not like most of the pop songs today. Songs from the heart can be in any type of music really from rock, to rap, or even metal. Just listen to the song Julia by the beatles.
