It is best to check the installation guide, a 2 pole 20 amp circuit will work.
Actually the NEC says you have to follow the instructions, they are part of the UL listing, and must be installed and used only as the instructions allow.

20 amp double pole breaker, with a 15 a breaker you would be very close to the trip of a 15 amp breaker. it would draw app 14. 66 amps

What's the max amp draw, that's the question to answer. When you know that, you'll know what size breaker to use.

the breaker is dependent upon the amperage draw and also the size of the wire that you are using.
