What is this noise coming from my car?

Hey guys! I recently took my car to Meineke to find out about this noise coming from my car, and these guys said they didn't hear it! It sounds like it's coming from either one of my tires or directly from the engine. It sounds like new snow tires on the car, and from 25 mph and higher, you can hear it! The mechanic actually told me that he couldn't hear it after driving it, and I think he was just feeding me the bull! I'm going to take it to another shop, but I want to know if anyone has any ideas on what this may be. FYI I drive a 97 Ford Contour with a 5 spd. manual, and even when I take the car out of gear ( at speed) the rpm's go down, but the noise doesn't stop until the car is at a stop. If you have any ideas, let me know, also let me know what kind of cost what you think it is may be. Thanks.

Would you rather have an honest mechanic who tells you he cannot hear a fault (even if he is mistaken), or a dishonest one who agrees with whatever you say to charge you for potentially non-existent fault fixing? No, he's not feeding you BS, he's giving you an honest opinion and some of his time for free.

You clearly disagree and are more familiar with the sounds your car usually makes, so take it elsewhere for other opinions. But from the description it's likely to be a noisy wheel bearing and even if it can't be heard it can usually be tested for by jacking the wheels up and checking for excessive axial play.
