I'm tired of getting sunburned every weekend and have been looking into boat covers. Will a bimini top hold up when moving at 30-40 miles an hour or will the wind rip it off?

I had the same question before I bought my first bimini top. The answer to your question is YES, it will work great at 40 mph! I have used mine while skiing, tubing and just going to fishing holes and back. I have my bimini top up all the time except when it is cold on the water and I want the sun on me. The reason it holds up so well while moving is that it is clipped down with support straps front and rear. The key to best performance is to adjust the straps so the front of the top is slightly lower than the rear and then the wind holds the top down instead of trying to ripe it off. Also be sure to check the clips and if they break, fix them right away. I have been free of sunburn for years and it is great. The surface of the earth was basically rolling, almost flat with the curvature of the earth of course. Few exceptions. The surface did not face rain but a mist rose or fell to water the plants and provide drink for the animals. When it did begin to rain, the people were astounded for they had never seen rain. The water came from the firmaments. The earth now contains the bulk of that water and the remainder is either frozen in the ice caps of the poles and glaciers or is in the atmosphere which we get as it returns to earth as rain, snow or sleet, some time hail stones.

They hold up very well as long as they are well made and kept tight. For examples look into the tops on Cobalt and Pursuit boats. I used to deliver them both and the folding bimini tops were great to stay out of the sun. I believe they were made using sunbrella fabric with stainless hardware.

I've seen Bimini tops on boats going that fast... Lots of them over fly bridges on sports fisherman types. I suppose it would depend on how strong you make the frame and supporting structure.

they work fantastic, and tightness is the key. you'll never regret buying one. I had one on my wellcraft in florida for 9 yrs and my boat would cruise around 38mph. never had a problem with it at all. enjoy!
