Accuracy and safety of "Microsoft Essentials"?

I've used it, it'll find really obvious things, but it's pretty poor. I've had 2 viruses on my computer while having essentials and it didn't pick up either of them. Not once did anything raise a red flag. It's alright for a free software program but I'd go with avast. My uncle is a computer security engineer and designs high-security programs for businesses. Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) is at the bottom in independent tests and ratings of antivirus programs. The only advantage of MSE is that its free. You can examine the ratings yourself here: http://www.av-test.org/en/tests/home-user/ Of the free antivirus programs available according to that site is Avast which you can download here: http://www.avast.com/en-us/get/olSeZktG Avast free also makes sure vital programs are up to date. Whichever antivirus you decide on, supplement it with Malwarebytes free antimalware which you can download here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/ Don't choose the trial version during installation and update it about once a week.
