Okay so i had a locksmith come look at my ignition cylinder and they said the steering column is busted?

and that i need a new one. I see a number of columns online and at a few salvage yards. Since my car was equipped with a grey key. Will taking the original column out and installing a new one w/key conflict with the security computer system?

no but you should get the new ignition re-keyed to match your old key. that way you wont have to reprogram the new key. the transponder system is in the cars computer , not in the ignition or column.
