It's more appropriate to find a separate seat, if one is available. At the bus stop they could always move away from you if they don't want any more conversation, but sitting beside you they'd be stuck.

If you try this you will see it almost always works... We humans like "our space" and unless there is no where to sit, stand, etc, we will 99% of the time take a seat one seat over from another person we don't know. Doctor's offices just places to sit. Just like you feel uncomfortable with someone is talking way to close to you, they are in "your" space and you may step back some. (or of course you don't want to get spit upon :-)
There was an experiment on this for psychology purposes, and I would sit right next to a person and many times they got up and moved, or turned their bodies away from me. When I sit with someone I know, I am slightly turned towards them. When you are in a room, just look at the people. Body language is very loud in some areas, slight in others. If both of you seemed to enjoy and want to continue the conversation, you can ask if you could sit by her, but also mention that if she's got reading to do or something else, that's ok too--to at least give her an out. Or, if you don't really want to continue the conversation, you can opt to just sit somewhere else. If she makes a signal that she wants you to sit next to her but you don't want to, just tell her that you need to do some work so you're just going to sit over there (let's her save face, you aren't rejecting her completely, just that you have work to do). Of course, if there aren't any other seats but next to each other, you can continue chatting, or you can very gently say you need to answer some emails or you really need to read this (paper, brochure, article) and hopefully she's get the message that she needs to be quiet. Then, of course, if you or she goes to get off the transport, just say the normal "have a great night, was fun talking" or whatever....Show more

If you smelled nice, definitely yes.
If you're real cute, then it might not matter how you smelled.
