Savannah, GA on the fourth of July?

My friend and I are taking a road trip that has us passing through Savannah on the fourth of July. I do not really care about the fireworks or anything. I mainly want to show my friend the city since she has never been. We are from Orlando and used to crazy theme park crowds. I mainly want to take her downtown on one of those carriage tours to give her an overview of the city and grab lunch on the waterfront and then continue on our way to North Carolina.

It looks like the main celebration is along the waterfront. If we are wondering around downtown first thing in the morning/early afternoon will it be crazy crowded? Will the carriage or city tours still be running.

We are arriving the evening of the 3rd and leaving the 4th.

Since there will be a flock of tourists visiting July 4th, all the usual tours and such will be available.  (It's a money-making holiday for tourism.)

If she's never been, she may find the ghost tour fun.  (They have a horse drawn one early evening, which we liked the best.)  Also, the visitor's center sells cassettes of self-directed driving tours, which worked out ok for us, but wasn't as good the guided tour.

Tell your friend to pack comfy shoes, since Savannah is a pedestrian-friendly town.

River street is where everyone will be ! We have fireworks for the first weekend of the month EVERY MONTH & since it will be the Fourth of July the show is even bigger . It is sponsored by wet willie's. There will be all kinds of vendors there and also MUSICIANS even Zumba ! & the carriage tours will be riding but only along Broughton streets and through the squares ! River street will be closed to traffic so there is plenty of room to walk and see . Remember to visit The Waving Girl down on the river- she used to wave the ships away from the ports there and now it's a statue .
