Turning 16 This August, and i'm ready to have my own job, to start making my own money and helping with things around the house financially wise. (like buying groceries ect.) So my questions are :
1) Should i try for a job in the food industry (my mom say's it's awful, but i kinda want to get a feel for myself)
2) Should i stick to retail stores ? (like krogers, wal-mart ect.)
Personal opinions on which you'd rather do or have done.

At 16, I worked as a host in a restaurant. The hours ended up conflicting with school, but it was not an "awful" job, for the most part. Had they been able to be more flexible, I would have stayed there longer.
By 17, I worked retail in a mall shop. It was more miserable than being a host. Rude customers, terrible managers, lousy pay. I bounced around in retail and ended up in a better job within a year or two and would have stayed there for a long time had school and extenuating circumstances not gotten to me.
During college, I worked in a nightclub waiting tables and bartending. It sucked, but the money was good. I ended up in a family type restaurant, working in the bar, and again, the work sucked, but the pay kept me going.
I don't know if this is helpful or not. I'm not an ultra outgoing person as I'm a bit of an introvert, so no customer service jobs were great fits for me. The money made food service more worth it to me than retail.

I would suggest retail, it's a put in get out business. If you a hard worker, go retail
