I've heard this expression many times: "You can't expect someone to love you if you don't love yourself first." And it doesn't make a bit of sense.
A person loving himself has no influence on how another person feels for that said person. Someone could actively hate himself and still have someone else be in love with him. So how is it that people who use this expression not see that it is illogical?

Yes technically it isn't true. There are no absolutes when it comes to love...
But in general if you don't love yourself you are not going to be fun to be around. You are going to be depressed and cranky... and generally people don't want to be around people like that. So GENERALLY people are not going to fall in love with those who do not love themselves first.
Yes, Others can fall in love with you, if you are a miserable ., drug addled person or something........ it happens all the time, and the heart can be very foolish.
But that doesn't make the other person right.......because that relationship is probably doomed.
If you don't love yourself.......if you don't think you are worthy of that love, you will probably do things to sabotage yourself, and that love, ultimately destroying it, or driving it away with reckless, thoughtless behavior.
You have to have the inner strength and self confidence to feel worthy of that love......and only then, can you properly return it.
Clinging or hanging on to someone, or worse.....using them......is not a healthy relationship.
You have to want to be a better person so that you can love and be loved by Others, in a good way.
if you cant love yourself you cant love others which is why they wont love you like the other saying you cant expect someone to love you if you dont love them back
