my lawnmower was flooded with oil/gas ;and we changed the filter and put WB40 on the spark plug; and where it plugs in; is that okay?

i wanted to know if we did the right thing by using WB40 for the post flooded spark plug area; and what else we can do ;

The first thing to do is to check the oil level in the crankcase, refill if necessary. As noted above, remove the sparkplug and pull the rope a few times.  Put a teaspoon of gas into the sparkplug hole, replace the plug and start the engine.  It will smoke for a bit but should clear up.  If you really must tip the mower over to work on it always tip it with the airfilter up.  That way the oil from the crankcase will not flow through the vent tube and into the airfilter area.  Setting the mower up on saw horses might be better in the long run.

First, pull the plug and turn the engine over a number of times to clear excess liquid from the cylinder.  Then spray some WD40 into the cylinder and turn over again, as fast as you can.  Clean the plug before trying to start it..
