Okay so I just recently got hired at chipotle near my town. They told me dress code was to wear no-slip shoes and I told them that would be okay. Thing is when I'm excited I rush to get out of where I am and being that this is my first real job I'm not sure what to do. I told them I wouldn't buy shoes from their store and instead will go out and buy them.
But my first day is today and I just remember I needed shoes.
What exactly are non-slip shoes? Could you name a few? Would converses be acceptable ?

Get Tredsafe shoes from walmart or something similar. I've been using tredsafe for years, don't last long but cheap (around 20$) You don't want everyday sneakers or anything like that because Non-slip shoes have special grips on the bottom that make it so when the floor is wet or greasy you don't fall.
And MEME no, that's not true, DCs and Etnies have laces but are NOT non slip. Try working fast food wearing either of those and you step on water or grease and it'll be almost like walking on ice, and i honestly don't know about converse but i doubt it. And also most restaurants have a certain color (usually black). If you don't have the right shoes, and you slip and fall and get hurt you are liable for any injuries. Also if you don't have shoes the store may have covers that you can slip onto your shoes that are non slip covers for your shoes.
Converse shoes and other similar type shoes are neither non-slip nor safe to wear for kitchen work. Any shoe that has fabric on top is not appropriate - what if you spilled hot food or grease on yourself or splashed yourself while mopping or cleaning up? The fabric wouldn't protect you at all. You need to get sturdy leather (or leather like) shoes. They are available just about anywhere, even PayLess, Target, K-Mart and Walmart. Each store has their own brand and they aren't terribly expensive - usually about $20-$25 for a basic type shoe. There are a variety of types from slip on to lace up, steel toe and even high top or boots. You will be on your feet for hours, so get ones that are comfortable and as light as possible. You don't need to get steel toe. I would stay away from the clog type shoe and go for one that looks like sneakers or Doc Martens. If you show up in fabric shoes, you will more than likely be sent home and that isn't good for your first day.
Any decent shoe store will sell non slip shoes. Even Wal Mart sells non slip shoes. A standard pair of sneakers ARE NOT non slip. You must buy shoes specifically designed to be non slip. They must say on the label "NON SLIP". Every person who works in the food service industry MUST wear non slip shoes to prevent accidents on the damp floors typically found in kitchens and anywhere that food is being prepared.
