b.q. What provisions can they make in case the human goes to the hospital, but doesn't die? Who will feed the pets for the time being?
At this point, as an older person, I would be afraid to get a cat, as I would like to do.

All of my pets are in my will and any new pets are added to my will. I have several friends who are in my will that are willing to take them all if something happens to me.
If I am in the hospital I have friends who don't mind going to my house to take care of my pets or if they aren't available they know to call a pet sitter or a local boarding place and have it charged to my credit card.
My family is not an option since 99.9% of them hate pets.
My grandmother just turned 85 and got a puppy because she knows if something happens I would take him in. She is a dog lover and even at her age she can't imagine not having a dog.

I guess they would need to arrange for the next of kin to take the pet in, or another family member and not let it have to be put down if no one cares or wants the expense

Just to make sure the pet is taken care of by someone who you know u can trust will take care of that pet. miss you my friend.

Put them in your will. Who you want to take them and care for them. Make sure they are someone who likes them. Someone like me would have them stuffed and buried with you so you need to be sure of who you choose.
Also, if you have a cat, hope someone finds you soon because cats will eat you. They start with the eyes, lips and stomach area. Thats how much they really care about you.
