Why do some people only show the side of their face on their profile?

And she has a lot of hair covering her face too. From what I can see she is not ugly. So what gives?

Maybe she feels too pretty from the front so try to tame her beauty a little.

That's just her good side. Not every angle of a persons face will look as good in a pic. So she just chose which angle would be best for her face or the angle she liked best.

They might think it's Their "Best Side", or it makes Them look more Interesting, or They have Scars or Blemishes they're not happy with... -Whatever. :)
