How do I remove old hardened grease from gas stove top?

I don't want to use Easy Off heavy duty because it smells so bad.

Can you remove the top? If so take it outside and use EZ Off or something similar. But it in a plastic bag and let it sit.

You can also use ammonia outside in a plastic bag. Cover the grease with a rag and pour some ammonia on it, close the bag and let it sit several hours.

They only other alternative is to scrip it off with steel wool but that will scratch the top.

Go to any auto supply store and get a bottle of Oomph degreaser.
It works great - just soak a strip of paper toweling and let it sit. Take the whole thing outside if you want - but this doesn't make fumes like oven cleaner.

Oven/ grill cleaner is the best but you should be wearing a mask and rubber gloves when using it. Its very dangerous to breath in and can cause skin irritations/burns. I used it without gloves and had to wear fabric gloves and sorbolene cream for a week because of the irritation. it makes you choke if u get a breath of it so be careful.. it will look brand new though :)
