You can but you get no points and it can't be picked as best answer

It's useful for making additional comments beyond the limit of 5 updates, and until you select a best answer, you can edit your answer, thus getting away with virtually unlimited chat.
Edit:
Until someone report monkey's you. Then you're effed.
Watch as reporter trolls use it to bait people into chat then they edit remove their own chat and report the suckers.
