Are you more apt to tolerate rudeness from a relative than you are from a friend or stranger?

I recently was made aware of a niece I have and on facebook she announced a new fridge she had bought and that down the road here would be different colors or "skins" available and I mentioned in the 1970s there were two basic colors for all appliances, Harvest Gold and Avocado Green. She got a little snippy at that and said "Not available yet, I stated sometime in the future" only she was not as polite. I really don't give a damn one way or the other, I was just being polite. I would LOVE to delete unfriend/block or whatever but facebook is such a tattletale they always announce everything. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Don't take this to heart. Young people are incredibly terse on social media, and it's common for oldies to misinterpret this. However, I'm not denying that a good many young people seem to be very rude these days, but I think older people have been saying that since time began.

Just block this person if you don't want them to have access to your facebook. If you've only just been 'made aware' of this niece, then clearly she's not close to you, and doesn't mean much to you. If you have a face book account, you know what you're in for from the start. That's why I don't do it at all. I don't get this need for announcing everything to the world on face book.

You're right, and I only use FB to keep in touch with our far flung family, but I do not need this one in my life so I "unfriended" her. Good riddance.
