When I go to the store nowadays the only bleach they sell is "concentrated". It says you should use half as much. Is this a lot of hooey or is the bleach really twice as strong? What do you think of scented bleach?

Liquid bleaches sold for domestic use are typically 3–10% active chlorine, Sodium hypochlorite is the chemical compound (NaClO) that when dissolved in water it is commonly known as bleach.

Concentrated Clorox yields 7.85% chlorine http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C5RIGQQ/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00C5RIGQQ&linkCode=as2&tag=theurbhea08-20&linkId=66VNFZA4STYHBXSX , so it is toward the high end of what is available, I don't know the old clorox concentration level.

Compared to Pure Brite that is 5.25% http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004I2APQK/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004I2APQK&linkCode=as2&tag=theurbhea08-20&linkId=MSAUNXWYRJOJL5IB , Clorox is stronger, not double.

A bottle of bleach is mainly water, with some active chemicals dissolved in it. Reduce the amount of water, and you have a concentrated bleach. Scent makes no difference to how effective a bleach is - so it is just a matter of taste.

it's like this... they wanted to raise their prices without having to retool for new bottles. sometimes the packaging costs more than the material they're selling. it would certainly cost a lot to replace machines or machine parts that make the bottles just to offer a different size. in this case, changing to a more concentrated formula was the most cost effective thing for them to do.

there's commercial bleach that's more like a thick gel, so the "new" bleach you're talking about is barely even concentrated at all.

besides... what choice do you have?

I buy it; I try to just use less of the product. I mainly use it to soak stained tea pitchers and pans. To be truthful, I like the fact that the bottle is smaller and easier to lug from the store back to home. I use the different scents, but it goes away pretty fast.

Clorox was always "watered down" compared to Blue Monday for instance. Look at the labels for % concentrations. Paying more for less is cheating yourself.
