Sky is a good team, and Porte is a good rider, but they are on unfamiliar ground against an equally strong team in Astane with a leader like Nibali. This is looking very much like the situation in last year's Giro When the defending champion (Hesjedal) and Sky's 2012 Tour winner (Wiggens) were both out of the race by the end of the first week. In that race, Sky's backup rider (Uran) finished second but could never match Nibali's ability to deal with bad conditions, something he has already demonstrated in the Tour this year
